How does a Husky go from This...

To This....

This is Cisco, a former foster Sibe under my care, and this is his story. I rescued him from the local pound in early January 2001, after he had been there for a month waiting for his owner to decide not to come get him. Cisco was reportedly constantly escaping and being picked up by animal control, and the owner was tired of paying to get him back. The dog was obviously very tired of being locked in a cage 24/7, and I happily brought him home.
Things got off to a bit of a rough start. For one thing, Cisco really liked cats (I had 2 at the time). He especially liked the way they tasted. So.. the cats got relegated to the bedroom. I was also concerned about him trying to escape from my yard, as my chain link fence was not that tall. So.. he had to stay in all day when I was not home, and my Sibe stayed outside.
For two months Cisco remained in my home without a single call or e-mail from anyone interested. Fortunately, he turned out to be a great dog. I never had any problem with him trying to escape, and soon he was able to join my Sibe outside in the snow. I realized that he was probably really unhappy in his former home, and that was not the case here. He was very aloof, which told me that he had never received much attention or affection. After two months, though, we were able to change that and he warmed right up.
Then one week I received 6 calls or e-mails from people interested in Cisco, 3 of which turned out to be serious. The first party to contact me was a nice couple that were used to having 3 huskies, and had lost one of theirs recently due to a terminal illness. It was apparently love at first site, and it became obvious they would provide Cisco a wonderful, permanent home. That's when the trouble started.
